2021-08-11 Forehand Distance In the evening I've been to the sports field to throw some drives with the deep flight plate grip. It worked out quite nicely, but needs more practice overall. Throwing Comets is a nice thing, but they do not mix well with other discs. Maybe that's the problem of my usual discs: as they are all pretty high speed stable, I need to throw them hard. The Comet, however, needs to be thrown with a lot of touch. Most likely throwing Comets would pair much better with some under- stable drivers. Anyways. I had several 90m drives, even with slightly wet discs. Most throws on straight lines, but the Felon also 90m on a big panning-out anny line. (Annies really are the more natural throw for me.) The short and wet grass made some nice long skipping hyzers pos- sible. That was fun! The last rounds I went with forehands. For quite some time I've tried to get a two-finger grip working, and partly it worked, but not really well and not dependably. But my normal forehand grip -- index and middle finger tucked in and placed opposite of the thumb -- works so well. It's only problem is that anything but hyzer releases is awkward. Thus for distance forehands I better have discs that flip up ... which are not really part of my bag, as for backhands I prefer good high speed stability. Today I've thrown some of my best forehands. My backhand distance on good throws is 90m. Today I threw several forehand drives 80m! And MOLF (straight) plus Felon (anny-flex) even 85m! I haven't throught I would be able to throw that far! The Roc3 flew 80m! I cannot throw it farther backhand. Even more impressive: With that grip I even forehanded the Comets really well (no wobble). (Comets are about the most difficult discs to forehand, as they are very OAT-sensitive.) The nicest flight was a Pro Valkyrie throw. This disc is pretty understable. It flipped up so nicely and then went straight for days -- just perfect! I really need to practice more. Also trust my good forehand more and use it on longer drives as well. http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
